In this paper we demonstrate a continuously variable bitrate receiver from 10 to 40 Gbit/s for DPSK balanced demodulation. Unlike previous DPSK demodulators, this receiver is also capable of passing intensity modulated waveforms unaffected.
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a method for demultiplexing and detection of time-interleaved DPSK using temporal pulse-carving at the receiver. Using this method we time-multiplex two 10Gbit/s NRZ-DPSK channels to 20Gbit/s without transmitter pulse-carving.
