We study ultrafast spectral characteristics of our ultra-short ultra-slicon rich nitride (USRN) waveguide with large Kerr nonlinearity (γ∼550W−1/m) and negligible nonlinear loss. The output spectra of USRN ring resonator and short-length waveguide broaden around 2 times and 4 times wider than that in 500 fs input pulses, respectively. Negligible nonlinear loss including two-photon absorption at near-infrared...
We report RF-spectrum analysis of optical signals based on cross-phase-modulation in a silicon-rich nitride waveguide. Measurements show a bandwidth of at least 560 GHz for our RF-spectrum analyzer. RF-spectra measurements for pulse trains at rates from ∼ 10 GHz to ∼ 160 GHz are demonstrated.
High performance silicon-on-insulator polarization beam splitter with a small footprint of ∼18 × 9 μm2 is demonstrated using a bend directional coupler with a bridge waveguide. High extinction ratio of > ∼20 dB over the entire C band is achieved for both TE-like and TM-like polarizations.
We demonstrate bandpass transmission filters and optical add-drop multiplexers on SOI based on interferometric structures incorporating a pair of sidewall Bragg gratings.
We demonstrate a bandpass transmission filter on SOI based on a pair of Bragg gratings in a Michelson interferometer. We obtain filter responses centered at 1531 nm and 1547.5 nm with 3 dB bandwidths of 8 nm and 5 nm, respectively.
The simultaneous generation of second and third order dispersion is demonstrated using nonlinearly chirped silicon waveguide gratings. Second order dispersion of −2.3×106 ps/nm/km and third order dispersion of 1.2×105 ps/nm2/km were demonstrated at 1.55µm.
