A novel monoclinic magnesium tungstate crystal, Tm:MgWO4, was grown and characterized in terms of structure, spectroscopy and laser generation. The output power was 772 mW at 2017–2029 nm with a slope efficiency of 39%.
An AlN photonic chip for quantum wavelength convention and modulation is designed and fabricated. The waveguide has low loss down to 1.2 dB/cm. Fast switching using Pockels effect and second harmonic generation is achieved.
A 2D quantum walk on an integrated quantum photonic circuit is demonstrated by using a multilayer low-loss Si3N4 waveguide lattice, which has promising applications in quantum computing and quantum communication, etc.
An integrated photonic chip for continuous-variable quantum key distribution is designed and fabricated. The modulation speed reaches 0.4 GHz. High extinction ratio up to 40 dBm for polarization multiplexing components is achieved.
We investigate intense broadband terahertz radiation generation based the interaction of high intensity ultrashort laser with solid plasma. THz pulse with electric field of hundreds of MV/cm are generated using laser with intensity of about 1018 W/cm2. Theoretical model, simulations agree well with experiments, and reveal that the THz radiation is coherent transition radiation by hot electrons produced...
An integrated volatile organic compounds (VOC) sensor based on silicon photonic ring resonator system is presented in this paper. A thin absorption layer is coated on the silicon surface required to selectively trap the target gas and response as refractive index change. This acts as the main sensing unit, which subsequently affect the resonance peak position. The relative high sensitivity (1.7 pm/...
We demonstrated a 400Gb/s Ethernet end-to-end circuit, inclusive of 400GbE client card with CPF8 interface and dual-carrier 16QAM line-side, on a production 100G core network segment between New York City and Washington DC. During the field trial, we demonstrated the feasibility of SDN-enabled creation, deletion, and re-routing of the 400G service.
We demonstrate interoperability of 400GBASE-LR8 for the first time between different modules suppliers and test sets using CFP8 alpha production pluggable modules. Error-free operation was measured with 10km of fiber and additional attenuation.
In this work, we propose a bidding policy for cloud users to reduce the instance rental bill by using the spot instance. Our approach is based on the recently developed two-timescale Lyapunov Optimization framework. It is shown that our approach is effective to save the instance rental cost.
We demonstrated directly modulated telecom-band sub-wavelength (diameter ∼114 nm) nanowire lasers on silicon photonic crystal for the first time. The dynamic properties were estimated using a photon counting system. A 10Gb/s opened eye-diagram was obtained.
This paper summarizes our approaches which synthesize the optimum electromagnetic (EM)-wave environment around various silicon devices, in order to maximize the device efficiency with minimum passive loss and footprint. This has enabled multi-mW THz radiation in standard silicon processes. Various critical capabilities for future THz microsystems, including integrated phase locking, multi-pixel coherent...
In this paper, the characteristics of the kinetic reliability of space four-links mechanism are analyzed and the relationship between the kinetic accuracy and wear clearances in joints is explored, using Advanced First Order and Second Moment (AFOSM) method and Monte-Carlo Simulation (MCS). The Archard wear model is applied to analyze the increasing wear clearances in joints; and the function between...
In urban power grids, the proportion of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) power cable continues to increase. Judging the insulation condition of XLPE cable precisely is of great significance. In this paper, a number of cable samples are thermally accelerated aged at different temperatures and during various periods. Polarization/depolarization current (PDC) and frequency-domain dielectric spectroscopy...
the unified dynamic rate system of generation and transmission based on technology of condition monitoring for overhead transmission line was introduced. Theories, components and structure of the system were analyzed. Condition monitoring technique and primary constrain condition applied in the system were discussed. The technical economy was proved in theory. The field test results and effects during...
The IEEE is currently developing a standard “Electrical characterization of printed circuit board and related interconnects at frequencies up to 50GHz” (IEEE Std P370). As part of the development of this standard, a technique (or techniques) is (are) required in order to provide a measure of the goodness-of-fit between measured and simulated data for a structure or between different measurements or...
The effects of bismuth on the performances of InP-based detectors and multiple triangular quantum wells in 2–3 µm band have been investigated. The cut-off wavelength of the InGaAsBi detector is tailored to 2.1 µm by the bismuth incorporation in the absorption layer, but the detector still shows an encouraging dark current due to decreased lattice mismatch to InP substrate. The material quality of...
Studies of time-varying or dynamic brain connectivity (BC) using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) are crucial to understand the relationship between different brain regions. This paper presents a novel method for estimating dynamic BC using a time-varying multivariate autoregressive (AR) model with spatial sparsity and temporal continuity constraints. The problem is formulated as a maximum...
Converter valve is the key equipment in HVDC project, and its performance has a tremendous influence on the reliability, stability and efficiency of the whole power system. Thyristor level unit is the basic unit of HVDC converter valve, so each thyristor level unit needs to be tested routinely before the operation of the power system, which results in huge workloads and high costs. At present, there...
As the core component of the HVDC transmission converter valve, thyristors' reverse recovery characteristics have important influence on electromagnetic transient characteristics of the converter valve, and are also the theoretical foundation for the converter valve design, manufacture, operation and maintenance. The effects of forward current, absorption circuit parameters and current change rate...
Oil-paper insulation system is an extraordinarily essential system of converter transformers as well as HVDC oil-impregnated paper capacitance graded bushings. Due to a few researches in surface and interface charge behaviour of supporting materials, there are still some problems in charge accumulation, thus affecting the application of HVDC bushings and the safety of entire grid. This paper studies...
