This paper presents our research on a 95 GHz magnetron based on the particle simulation and experimental verification. Some important characteristics such as space charge distribution, electron back bombardment and electron secondary emission have been investigated. The measured 5.6 kW output power and long life time enable this magnetron to be applied in the w-band cloud radar.
A high-harmonic gyrotron using an axis-encircling electron beam has been designed and studied. The eighth harmonic oscillation at 0.42 THz can be realized in the designed gyrotron, leading to a significant reduction of the required external magnetic field strength. The operation of the gyrotron is characterized using 3-D particle-in-cell simulations.
This paper presents our study on a 0.2-THz spatial harmonic magnetron with 3D particle simulation model and cold cavity testing. The magnetron is operated on first order backward spatial harmonic of a π/2-1 mode. The saturated output power is predicted at 2.8 kW with 13.6 kV anode voltage and 0.944 T magnetic field.
A 0.42-THz eighth-harmonic large-orbit gyrotron (LOG) operating with $\mathrm{TE}_{\mathrm {8,1,1}}$ mode has been designed and studied. The LOG design is characterized by the requirement of low external magnetic field and short cavity length to limit the ohmic loss. The cold cavity analysis is presented and followed by the hot cavity simulation with the 3-D particle-in-cell code. It is shown in...
A 0.42 THz fourth-harmonic large orbit gyrotron (LOG) operating with TE4,2 mode is designed and studied. Unlike the widely used TEm, 1 mode in previous high harmonic (harmonic number s>=4) LOGs, the increase of radial index from 1 to 2 and even larger values bears the potential to enhance the beam-wave interaction efficiency as well as to decrease the cavity wall loss. 3D PIC simulation has shown...
This paper reports our simulation of the starting process of oscillation in a 42 GHz gyrotron using CST Particle Studio. The computer model of the gyrotron is setup using the similar parameters in Ref[1]. We have looked into the mode competition and building up of oscillation in this gyrotron's model. Also, we have investigated the influence of external magnetic field and azimuthal corrugation on...
This paper reports our simulation of the starting oscillation process in a 42 GHz gyrotron using MAGIC Tool Suite 2007. The computer model of the gyrotron is setup using the similar parameters in Ref[1]. We have looked into the mode competition and building up of oscillation process in this gyrotron's model. Also, the simulation result is verified by its good agreement with that from CST Particle...
A novel Ku-band eight-way spatial power dividing/combining network, based on two reduced-height waveguide to mirostrip E-plane four-probe structures connected with a broadband waveguide E-T branch symmetrically, has been proposed and designed in this paper firstly. And the measured 10-dB return loss and 0.8-dB insertion loss of the power combiner are obtained in whole Ku-band (12 GHz-18 GHz). And...
