Along the last years, the analysis of the Heart Rate Variability (HRV) has been employed for many and varied applications, such as the analysis of the health status, control of several diseases or, even, as a tool for helping to the diagnosis of some illnesses. In this work, we analyse the HRV signal of children exposed to food allergies provocation tests, or Oral Food Challenges (OFC). With this...
Telemedicine or mHealth systems can improve the quality of life of patients who need to be monitored continuously. Not only will it allow them to stay at their own home with a higher level of mobility but also maintaining or even improving the accuracy of the diagnostic. Remote monitoring can enable information about the health status of all patients to be passed to the medical staff continuously...
Adaptive probabilistic modelling of the EEG background is proposed for seizure detection in neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. The decision is made based on temporal derivative of the seizure probability with respect to the adaptively modeled level of background activity. The robustness of the system to long duration, seizure-like artifacts (in particular those due to respiration) is improved...
This work proposes a WWBAN (Wearable Wireless Body Area Network) for patients and its localization by means of a Zigbee-based LPS (Local Positioning System). To carry out both systems a mote has been used. This mote is a device composed by a microcontroller, some sensors and some communication modules. The WWBAN is used to measure user movement and heart rate, save it and send it to a remote device...
Recent advances in communications technologies and embedded systems have allowed the development of remote health monitoring systems. There are different approaches depending on the available measurements and the communication system used. In this paper an activity monitoring system is proposed in order to detect falls and/or faints of the user. The feature that distinguishes this system from other...
In this paper, an ASIC implementation of a processor for generic computations of the type u = ab/c in the Galois field GF(2m) is described. This algorithm can perform the operations in an Elliptic Curve Crypto (ECC) processor. In this case the hardware operates in the field defined by a given irreducible polynomial. The area and timing performance of the processor are discussed for a 0.35µm ASIC technology.
To evaluate 3 published automated algorithms for detecting seizures in neonatal EEG.One-minute, artifact-free EEG segments consisting of either EEG seizure activity or non-seizure EEG activity were extracted from EEG recordings of 13 neonates. Three published neonatal seizure detection algorithms were tested on each EEG recording. In an attempt to obtain improved detection rates, threshold values...
