We simulate giant sideband-resolved interaction between telecom photons and megahertz phonons traveling along a silicon double-slot waveguide. The calculations predict a Rabi flop length below 100 μm and a Brillouin gain coefficient above 109 W−1m−1.
We investigate acoustic coupling between two silicon waveguides through a 60nm-thin silicon “socket” layer. The coupling turns out to be highly dependent on the socket length. The structure holds promise for microwave processing.
The waveguide is the most fundamental component of integrated photonic circuits. We observe that roughness-induced backscattering in high-contrast silicon waveguides generates over 10 dB spectral transmission variations in centimeter-long silicon waveguides.
We prove a connection between the Brillouin gain and the zero-point optomechanical coupling rate. Moreover, we report on observations of Brillouin scattering in silicon photonic nanowires — showing efficient coupling between near-infrared light and gigahertz sound.
With the help of the strong nonlinear optical response in silicon nanophotonic wire waveguides complex sources and devices can be integrated on a chip. We demonstrate mid-infrared wavelength translators and frequency combs Furthermore, we open up the possibility for the integration of nonlinear optical functions at telecom wavelengths by exploiting more exotic nonlinear interactions in silicon waveguides...
We report the first observation of a hypersonic mode of a small-core silicon wire. In particular, we achieve record 4.4 dB on/off continuous-wave Brillouin gain at 1550 nm. The wire is supported by a tiny oxide pillar to block the path for external phonon leakage.
We analyzed the enhancement of the forward Brillouin gain in a silicon slot waveguide. The calculations predict a gain of 3.6 × 105 W−1m−1, which is an order of magnitude larger than in a silicon wire.
