This paper presents initial results of evaluating suitability of the conventional two-tone CW passive intermodulation (PIM) test for characterization of modulated signal distortion by passive nonlinearities in base station antennas and RF front-end. A comprehensive analysis of analog and digitally modulated waveforms in the transmission lines with weak distributed nonlinearity has been performed using...
This study presents the design of a thin electromagnetic absorber which exhibits radar backscatter suppression that is independent of the wave polarisation at large incidence angles. The structure consists of a metal backed printed frequency selective surface (FSS), with resistors placed across narrow gaps inserted in the middle of each of the four sides of the conductor loops. The geometry of the...
We numerically study nonreciprocal regimes of surface plasmon-polariton at the interface between two gyrotropic media. We predict existence of isolated unidirectional TE and TM surface modes guided by the interface between gyroelectric and gyromagnetic media.
The novel concept and architecture of the vertically stacked multistage circulator with a single source of dc magnetic bias has been proposed. The distinctive features of the new arrangement are discussed and the main aspects of the circulator design, including the dc magnetic bias and concurrent thermal stabilization of multiple junctions, are presented. The experimental prototype of the VHF stacked...
The EUProMeta is an international distributed doctoral school that educates students at the Ph.D. level in all theoretical and experimental aspects of metamaterials. This contribution provides an overview to the activities of the school, its intention, its structure and the way individual school events are implemented. The article aimes to raise awareness that education of students is an essential...
The effect of weakly nonlinear terminations on the distributed passive intermodulation (PIM) generation in printed transmission lines has been investigated. The phenomenology based on the nonlinear transmission line model developed in the previous work has been generalised by introducing the new nonlinear boundary conditions. The developed model has been verified experimentally with the loose end...
This paper presents an experimental technique of the near-field probing of passive intermodulation (PIM) products distribution on microstrip transmission lines. An effective normalization of the probe readings at the intermodulation frequency is proposed and validated by experiment. The main properties of the distributed PIM generation in microstrip lines are deduced from the experimental results.
We have performed a comprehensive 3D FDTD transient analysis of EM pulses propagating on coupled printed lines with multilayer dielectric substrates and in complex 3D structures. The simulation results have revealed a wealth of new physical features, which are, to our best knowledge, seen for the first time. A comparative analysis of pulse propagation on coupled lines in a homogeneous medium, and...
