This paper presents a new time-frequency approach for estimating the Doppler spread of the received signal at the mobile unit antenna in a typical micro-cellular system with non-isotropic scattering. The proposed method uses the ambiguity function of the received signal at the mobile unit antenna. The proposed estimator is simple and shown to be unbiased when the scattering distribution is non-isotropic.
Accurate estimates of the velocity of a mobile station are necessary for improving the performance of the wireless communication systems. This paper presents a new approach for estimating the velocity of a mobile station, or equivalently the maximum Doppler frequency shift, in a typical micro-cellular system with non-isotropic scattering. The proposed estimators use the instantaneous frequency of...
In this paper, using a composite model for the received signal at the mobile unit, moment-based estimators for the Ricean K-factor are derived taking into account the effects of shadowing. The results are then used to analytically evaluate the performance of the previously proposed moment-based estimators for K when both multipath fading and shadowing are present. It is proven that the performance...
