Summary form only given. Two-photon excitation provides a means of activating chemical or physical processes with high spatial resolution in three dimensions and has enabled the development of 3D fluorescence imaging, 3D optical data storage, and 3D lithographic microfabrication. We have developed a wide array of chromophores which hold great promise for two-photon applications. These molecules are...
Summary form only given. We present a new growth technique for InGaAsP to achieve short carrier lifetimes: He plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. This technique yields a material with an ultrashort carrier lifetime, while maintaining the sharp band edge of material grown without a He plasma. We show that He-plasma-assisted-grown InGaAsP is a convenient means to obtain an ultrafast response and...
The observation of submilliwatt switching and optical bistability in an InGaAs/InP MQW waveguide Fabry-Perot cavity using diode laser sources is reported. Second-order bistability was also observed, with a higher power colour-centre laser source, showing that optically-induced phase shifts of greater than 2 pi can be achieved at power levels of less than 5 mW. A switch contrast of approximately 3:1...
The authors report the first demonstration of thermally stable, optical bistability in a passive InGaAs/InGaAlAs multiquantum well nonlinear Fabry-Perot etalon at the wavelength 1.5 mu m. Critical switch powers of 1 mW were obtained, permitting operation with a CW diode laser source. Switch on/off times of 14 ns/40 ns were observed under slow ramping conditions.<<ETX>>
