We present the photometric redshift distribution of a sample of 198 Extremely Red Galaxies (ERGs) with Ks < 22 and (I775 – Ks) > 3.92 (Vega), selected by Roche et al. [3] in 50.4 arcmin2 of the Chandra Deep Field South (CDFS). The sample has been obtained using ISAAC-VLT and ACS-HST GOODS public data. We also show the results of a morphological...
We present the results of a study which uses the 3CRR sample of radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN) to investigate the evolution of the black-hole:spheroid relation in the most massive early-type galaxies from 0<z<2. Radio-loud unification is exploited to obtain virial (line-width) black-hole mass estimates from the 3CRR quasars, and stellar mass estimates from the 3CRR radio galaxies, thereby...
We summarise the results of our recently completed HST R-band study of low-redshift (0.1<z<0.25) FRII radio galaxies along with the host galaxies of quasars of similar redshifts. We find that, like radio galaxies, the hosts of radio-loud quasars and all but the least luminous radio-quiet quasars are massive elliptical galaxies with relatively large scalelengths (~10 kpc) and luminosities (>2L*)...
