In accurate simulation of surface tension dominating systems, such as particulate systems in the nano‐ and mesoscale, the computation of interface curvature is essential. In a previous work a formulation using discrete differential geometry was demonstrated that could be used to find exact equilibrium solutions of surfaces. However, it was also shown that this formulation, as well all other tested...
The study of new biomaterials is the objective of many current research projects in biotechnological medicine. A promising scaffold material for the application in tissue engineering or other biomedical applications is polysialic acid (polySia), a homopolymer of α2,8-linked sialic acid residues, which represents a posttranslational modification of the neural cell adhesion molecule and occurs in all...
Antimicrobial/antifungal effects of silver nanoparticles obtained with a novel electrochemical method on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Aspergillus niger and Penicillium phoeniceum cultures have been studied. The tests conducted have demonstrated that synthesized silver nanoparticles - when added to water paints or cotton fabrics - show a pronounced antibacterial/antifungal effect.
