To optimize intensity-localization in spatio-temporally focused ultrafast beams we demonstrate spectral interferometric and spectrally-resolved knife edge scan methods to characterize lateral and angular spatial chirp. A novel dispersion scan yields the focused-pulse spectral phase.
We analyze the structure of space-time focusing of spatially-chirped pulses using a technique where each frequency component of the beam follows its own Gaussian beamlet that in turn travels as a ray through the system.
Space-time focusing of spatially-chirped Ti:Sapphire laser pulses is used to generate a plasma in air axially localized to 28× less than the confocal parameter, suppressing filamentation on the way to the focus.
To explore perceptions of clinical consultations and how they relate to questionnaire-based patient feedback.Telephone interviews with 35 junior doctors and 40 general practice patients who had used the Doctors’ Interpersonal Skills Questionnaire (DISQ).Doctors and patients had similar views of ‘good consultations’ as relying on doctors’ listening and explaining skills. Preferences for a consultation...
Medical Education 2010: 44: 367–378Objectives There is growing interest in multi‐source, multi‐level feedback for measuring the performance of health care professionals. However, data are often unbalanced (e.g. there are different numbers of raters for each doctor), uncrossed (e.g. raters rate the doctor on only one occasion) and fully nested (e.g. raters for a doctor are unique to that doctor)...
