Intermediate frequency (IF) gain bandwidth (GBW) of terahertz (THz) mixers based on superconducting niobium nitride (NbN) hot electron bolometers (HEBs) has been improved. The IF GBW has been measured by 2 different methods and same values up to 7 GHz have been obtained.
A direct-conversion transceiver including base-band amplifiers and filters employs a 60-GHz quadrature VCO and a feedforward divider with no buffers to achieve a low power consumption. Designed in 40-nm LP CMOS, the radio presents a noise figure of 4.8 to 8.2 dB in the receive mode and an output power of +10 dBm in the transmit mode while drawing 56 mW and 124 mW, respectively.
High frequency broadband lateral-field-excited (LFE) ultrasonic transducers were fabricated using inversion layer lithium niobate (LiNbO3) single crystal plate. The transducer developed for this study used an X-cut LiNbO3 thin plate with an active element thickness of 152µm relative to the designed center frequency of 33MHz. 28% inversion layer thickness ratio was obtained by grinding the half-thickness...
The design of metal patch antennas was presented along with performance data for Juno MWR flight model antenna arrays. Metal patches are supported by a large diameter metallic column and contain no dielectric. This makes metal patches attractive for applications where dielectrics are problematic, such as environments prone to electrostatic discharge, high radiation, and very high frequency operation...
A novel improved loaded open sleeve antenna is proposed for broadband application in UHF/VHF. This proposed open sleeve antenna has symmetry distribution of the parasitic elements which can commendably solve the problem of horizontal pattern asymmetry of conventional open sleeve antenna. Top loading technology is adopted simultaneously which minimize the size of the antenna by 32%. Meanwhile, tandem...
A novel broadband omni-directional circular patch antenna is proposed to substitute for a broadband monopole antenna for its proverbial advantages. Considering the inherent narrow bandwidth of conventional microstrip patch antennas, electromagnetic coupling feed technology, shorting pins and matching network designed by means of genetic algorithm (GA) optimizers are used simultaneously to broaden...
We show that with simple spectral filtering, the Schmidt number for the transmitted photon-pairs (with 90% transmittance) which are produced via type-II parametric down-conversion in a KTP waveguide equals to unity to within 0.2%.
The first reported RealVideo-embedded video decoder is presented The embedded streaming (e-Streaming) video decoder integrates RealVideo, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, and VC-1 by 658 K logic gates and 522 Kbits SRAM. In particular, a RealVideo (RV) is fully-reused and is first integrated into our multi-standard video decoder. It explores RV temporal reference method, RV VLD table reduction, multi-stage...
The paper presents the design and experimentation of a high-performance optical packet-switched metro WDM ring network (HOPSMAN). Equipped with novel medium access control, HOPSMAN achieves superior bandwidth efficiency, access delay, fairness, and bursty traffic adaptation.
