Results of experimental research on stabilization of the frequency of relativistic S-band 6-resonator magnetron powered by linear induction accelerator (U∼300 κB, I∼2.5 kA, τ ≈150 ns) are presented. The frequency of the microwaves was stabilized using a transparent cathode with limited electron emission surface, as well as applying single and double ring straps of the resonators anode block.
A relativistic S-band magnetron coupled with a traveling wave resonator represents a new scheme for a microwave pulse compressor to generate output pulses of a few nanosecond duration at gigawatt power level and above. Experiments on the resonator charging by the relativistic magnetron have been conducted. A short duration of the energy storage phase allows one to use conventional microwave components,...
The operation of the microwave compressor driven by a relativistic S-band magnetron, which produces microwave pulses with power up to 250 MW and duration of ∼100 ns, is described. The electric strength of the compressor is increased by using the traveling wave resonator which does not require a resonant interference switch for release of the stored energy. A preliminary results of the energy release...
The notion of Kolmogorov-Martin-Lof Random sequences is extended from computable to enumerable distributions. This allows definitions of various other properties, such as mutual information in infinite sequences. Enumerable distributions (as well as distributions faced in some finite multi-party settings) are semi measures, handling those requires care.
One of the prevalent trends in emerging large scale multi-tenant datacenters is network virtualization using overlays. Here we investigate application performance degradation in such an overlay applied to commodity 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks. We have adopted partition/aggregate as a representative commercial workload that today is deployed on bare metal servers and is notoriously sensitive to latency...
Summary form only given. In order to extend the capability of the Hybrid Plasma Equipment Model (HPEM)1 simulation code to increasingly lower operating pressure conditions, the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC)2 method is used to improve the modeling of the heavy particle species in a hollow cathode magnetron (HCM) plasma reactor, a device used to implement the Ionized Metal Physical Vapor Deposition...
Acquiring and representing the 4D space of rays in the world (the light field) is important for many computer vision and graphics applications. Yet, light field acquisition is costly due to their high dimensionality. Existing approaches either capture the 4D space explicitly, or involve an error-sensitive depth estimation process. This paper argues that the fundamental difference between different...
We propose a new cross-layer mechanism, referred to as route-control, for mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). This mechanism, which works in the network and transport layers, aims at enhancing the performance of MANETs' reliable transport protocols. The main idea behind the proposed mechanism is to notify the sender when the packets of a Transport layer flow change their route. We show that the sender...
Blind deconvolution is the recovery of a sharp version of a blurred image when the blur kernel is unknown. Recent algorithms have afforded dramatic progress, yet many aspects of the problem remain challenging and hard to understand. The goal of this paper is to analyze and evaluate recent blind deconvolution algorithms both theoretically and experimentally. We explain the previously reported failure...
This paper presents a comparison between two handover schemes: drop and forward. In the drop scheme, packets received by the base station after the host has disconnected are dropped, whereas in the forward scheme these packets are forwarded to the new base station. We analyze various TCP flavors and compare our findings to simulation results. Our results can be used to determine which handover scheme...
We present spectral matting: a new approach to natural image matting that automatically computes a set of fundamental fuzzy matting components from the smallest eigenvectors of a suitably defined Laplacian matrix. Thus, our approach extends spectral segmentation techniques, whose goal is to extract hard segments, to the extraction of soft matting components. These components may then be used as building...
In this paper we are going to discuss a semi-empirical approach, which will allow us, to determine the effective minimum time interval (T), over which voltage noise affects the performance of a silicon integrated circuit. This interval corresponds to simultaneous voltage collapse of the power delivery network, and current demand from the silicon. The current amplitude I0 in this paper is assumed to...
It is a common belief that repetitive users can adapt to a spoken dialog system. In this paper we describe a dialog design that allows experienced users to make their interactions with the system more efficient and present experimental evaluation of such adaptation. In our study we focused on the application of dialog systems as a tool for real-time data collection for healthcare. Specifically, we...
We introduce a new algorithm for fitting a Catmull-Clark subdivision surface to a given shape within a prescribed tolerance, based on the method of quasi-interpolation. The fitting algorithm is fast, local and scales well since it does not require the solution of linear systems. Its convergence rate is optimal for regular meshes and our experiments show that it behaves very well for irregular meshes...
