This paper presents design studies of an integrated electrical drive employing a wound field flux switching motor (WFFSM) coupled with a Z-source inverter (ZSI). The WFFSM has field excitation coils as dc field mmf sources locate at the stator body. On the other hand, the ZSI works as a three-phase inverter with voltage boost function by adding a switching device and an impedance-network. The impedance-network...
We describe the design and characterization of a 3-type heterogeneous 36-core, 3-mode fiber with record spatial channel count and density and perform transmission measurements in all 108 spatial channels using 40×100GHz spaced 25GBaud DP-QPSK signals.
A physical compact charge carrier mobility model for undoped-body organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) based on an analysis of the bias-dependent Fermi-energy movement in the band gap is reported. Mobility in localized- and extended-energy states predicts the current transport in week- and strong-inversion regimes, respectively. A hopping mobility model as a function of surface potential is developed...
We present experimental transmission results for a novel 6-core coupled-core fibre with 125 μm cladding diameter. We transmit combined 2-polarization, 6-SDM and 30-WDM channels over a distance of 1705 km, with a spectral-efficiency-distance product of 30690 bit/s/Hz km.
The effects of annealing on p+-Si/n-4H-SiC heterojunctons fabricated by using surface-activated bonding (SAB) were investigated by current-voltage (I–V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements. I–V characteristics were improved and the flat-band voltages extracted from C-V characteristics were smaller by annealing at higher temperatures.
The effects of annealing on n-Si/n-4H-SiC junctions made by the surface activated bonding were investigated. Both the forward and reverse characteristics were improved by annealing at higher temperatures.
We experimentally demonstrate transmission over a novel multicore fiber with 9 cores arranged in 3 groups of 3 cores, where strong coupling occurs within the groups and weak couplings between groups. We transmitted over 2500 km in a single group at a time and 715 km when all 9 cores are used. Low-loss 3D waveguides are used as couplers.
Ultrasound images are widely used for diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. In liver cirrhosis classification using M-mode ultrasound images, Zhou's method has been shown to be effective. However, in Zhou's approach, the liver cirrhosis classification performance depends on the accuracy of the abdominal aorta wall extraction. Therefore, we examine to classify the liver cirrhosis not using the abdominal aorta...
In this paper, a surface potential based compact model for organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) including both tail and deep trap states across the band gap is presented and benchmarked against measured data from high-performance dinaphtho thieno thiophene (C10-DNTT) based test devices. This model can accurately describe the OTFT test-structure current from week to strong inversion regime.
The present paper introduces an intelligent infrastructure for social networking services using a messaging network. The proposed messaging network can provide content/topic-based routing and filtering. The proposed scheme provides a network-centric approach to ensure flexible information aggregation and message mediation for social networking services.
Computer-aided detection/diagnosis (CAD) is emerging as an innovative interdisciplinary technology for medical service. The traditional concept of automated computer diagnosis is encountered with a significant barrier because computerized medical systems cannot fully replace human doctors with the comparable level of performance. By contrast, CAD is becoming widely adopted in clinical work because...
The reliability of SiC bipolar device modules consisting of SiC commutated gate turn-off thyristors and SiC pin diodes fabricated on a 4° off-cut SiC substrate is investigated. According to three-phase inverter operation using a Back to Back system at DC bus voltage of 2 kV and effective output power of approximately 120 kW, the SiC module could achieve the world's first successful inverter operation...
We experimentally demonstrate multiple-input-multiple-output transmission of a combined 3-space-, and 2-polarization-, and 5-wavelength-division multiplex in a 3-core microstructured fiber over 4200 km. This is the record transmission distance for spatial-division multiplexing in a fiber.
In this paper, we propose a comprehensive model to express nMOSFET threshold voltage shift induced by the stress, ranging from high tensile one to high compressive one. Using this model, the quantum confinement effect is shown to play an important role to cause the threshold voltage shift as large as about 80mV induced by high-film-stress CESL.
We propose a method for quantifying how much the signal processing in speech communication services affects speaker identification accuracy. In this quantification using a subjective speaker identification test, the following four requirements should be satisfied, (a) The results should be less dependent on the order of speech samples, (b) Various speakers should be used in the test, (c) Speech samples...
Light propagation was simulated through coupled-resonator optical waveguides (CROWs) of polystyrene microspheres connected with micro-joints. Through micro-joints, nanojet-induced mode (NIM) light propagation was enhanced even across a bending point. In addition, NIM light propagation was significantly dependent on the micro-joint diameter.
Inter-core crosstalk of fabricated multi-core fiber was statistically evaluated to be less than -77.6 dB after 17.4-km propagation for λ=1550 nm using newly-developed method. The crosstalk was estimated to be less than -30 dB after 10,000 km.
We demonstrate record 109-Tb/s transmission of spatial division multiplexed (SDM) signals over 16.8 km using a seven-core fiber. Each SDM channel contains 97 WDM channels on a 100-GHz grid and 2×86-Gb/s polarization-multiplexed QPSK signals.
Propagation characteristics of seven-core fiber were investigated for multiplexed signals of spatial-division and wavelength-division. Effect of chromatic dispersion and inter-core crosstalk were evaluated for 5-km fiber by using 10-Gbit/s channels.
We designed and fabricated a multi-core fiber whose attenuation is less than 0.18 dB/km and effective area is about 80 μm2. Crosstalk was observed be less than -55.5 dB after 17.6 km propagation.
