Freestanding waveguide coupled pedestal disk, suspended adiabatic taper and focusing subwavelength gratings were monolithic integrated on silicon-on-insulator. The quality factor of ∼105 with ∼7 dB extinction ratio was measured in near-infrared.
We represent the polarization dependent loss of graphene placed directly onto silicon waveguides. Graphene introduces 7.7 dB higher losses for TM mode in a 150 µm long waveguide, which is sufficient for an integrated polarizer.
We describe a platform for mid-infrared silicon photonic devices based on focusing subwavelength grating coupler (SWG) and suspended membrane waveguides. The focusing SWG was designed for 2.75 μm wavelength. 24.7% coupling efficiency was measured. The suspended membrane waveguide was optimized in terms of holes size and etch depth.
