Ths active region position in broad-waveguide lasers can significantly influence the performance of the device due to significant differences in mobility between electrons and holes. An increase in output power by 25% was observed in lasers with the active region positioned close to the p-cladding layer.
GaN nanopillar arrays are fabricated by inductively coupled plasma reactive ion etching (ICP-RIE) of lithographically patterned GaN epilayers grown on sapphire substrate. The morphology and optical quality of the nanopillars is investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and micro-photoluminescence (μ-PL) respectively. The PL intensity of the nanopillars is enhanced by a factor of more than...
We present an InP-based laser with Y-coupling [1] inspired resonator cavity. This design allows the reduction of gain-saturation and two-photon absorption [2]. This is achieved by increasing the cross-section of laser mode (reducing the field intensity) while maintaining single spatial mode operation, which is very important in numerous semiconductor laser applications. This design can be applied...
Optical dipole nano-antennas are passive devices needing light from external sources. In this work, highly efficient coupling of light from microdisk lasers into plasmonic nano-antennas by using nano-tapers is proposed.
We study experimentally the nonlinear properties of fishnet metamaterials infiltrated with liquid crystals. We find that moderate laser powers result in significant changes of their optical transmission, being further tunable by bias electric field.
