We present preliminary results of spectroscopic data obtained with the La Silla 3.6m TIMMI2 and the VLT-ISAAC instruments. We have obtained 23 TIMMI2 N-band and 18 Q-band spectra for our total sample of 36 stars in March 2003 to investigate the evolution of the grain properties in circumstellar disks. Our sample consists of Herbig stars, TTauri stars and Vega-like stars, some of which have...
V4334 Sgr is a star which underwent a very late Helium shell flash in 1995 [1,2]. The last known similar event was V605Aql in 1919. V4334 Sgr has shown fast and massive changes including the development of a strong infrared excess as a direct result of mass loss and the formation of hot dust. We have monitored V4334 Sgr in the mid-IR since 1997, witnessing the mass loss to vary by a factor...
Two specialized new instruments for ESO's VLT, VISIR and CRIRES, spawned the idea for this workshop. CRIRES is a dedicated very high resolution infrared spectrograph; VISIR features a high resolution spectroscopic mode. Together, the instruments combine the sensitivity of an 8m-telescope with the now well-established reliability of VLT-facility instruments. High resolution here means that lines in...
