Results are presented from experimental studies performed to determine the electrical potentials that can be recorded between the shell and tuyeres of blast furnace No. 9 at the ArselorMittal Krivoy Rog company. Changes in those potentials are used to analyze processes that place in the hearth of the furnace.
A method of converter smelting of steel with the application of low voltage has been developed at the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy, Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Extensive testing at Ukrainian enterprises in 60-, 160-, and 250-t converters demonstrates benefits in terms of resource and energy conservation and environmental impact.
