This paper presents an RF CAD assisted approach to accurate characterisation of microstrip nonlinearities in planar microwave circuits fabricated on commercial printed circuit board laminates. The proposed methodology is employed for the analysis of the nonlinear effects in microstrip filters due to weak intrinsic distributed nonlinearity. The results of this study provide useful insights on the optimum...
This paper studies the beamspace multiplexing for free-space wireless millimeter-wave (mm-wave) backhaul applications, which has never been investigated before. A system architecture of a dual-beam mm-wave link is established, and the synthesis approach for the system key parameters that enable the beamspace multiplexing is presented. Extensive simulations are performed and the obtained results show...
This paper presents initial results of evaluating suitability of the conventional two-tone CW passive intermodulation (PIM) test for characterization of modulated signal distortion by passive nonlinearities in base station antennas and RF front-end. A comprehensive analysis of analog and digitally modulated waveforms in the transmission lines with weak distributed nonlinearity has been performed using...
The paper presents a conceptual discussion of the characterisation and phenomenology of passive intermodulation (PIM) by the localised and distributed nonlinearities in passive devices and antennas. The PIM distinctive nature and its impact on signal distortions are examined in comparison with similar effects in power amplifiers. The main features of PIM generation are discussed and illustrated by...
The effect of weakly nonlinear terminations on the distributed passive intermodulation (PIM) generation in printed transmission lines has been investigated. The phenomenology based on the nonlinear transmission line model developed in the previous work has been generalised by introducing the new nonlinear boundary conditions. The developed model has been verified experimentally with the loose end...
This paper presents an experimental technique of the near-field probing of passive intermodulation (PIM) products distribution on microstrip transmission lines. An effective normalization of the probe readings at the intermodulation frequency is proposed and validated by experiment. The main properties of the distributed PIM generation in microstrip lines are deduced from the experimental results.
