We have measured the efficiency of collinear four-wave mixing of CO2 laser beat-waves in GaAs for different crystal orientations. We deduce significant contribution of cascaded difference frequency generation to the effective nonlinear refractive index.
The CO2 laser-plasma interactions are uniquely placed for Shock Wave Acceleration of He or other light ions. We report on experimental and numerical studies of He ion acceleration in a gas jet plasma.
Amplification of 3 ps pulses to >20GW in a 1Hz CO2 laser MOPA chain is described. Several ways and experimental progress towards increase of the peak power for 10 µm pulses are discussed.
Supercontinua covering the entire mid-IR region were obtained by sending a train of 3 ps CO2 laser pulses through a 67mm GaAs crystal. The spectral width is attributed to stimulated Raman scattering and self-phase modulation.
