The experimental investigation of electric systems susceptibility to high-power narrow-band disturbances is problematic. It requires many individual measurements to cover a wide range of frequencies. The knowledge of the resonant frequencies of the system can simplify this task. We estimated the parasitic resonant frequencies of a simple two port network by analysing the transient late time response...
In this contribution a test setup is proposed which allows exciting and observing transient system responses within a nonlinearly loaded resonator. The test setup can also be modelled numerically, thus allowing to correlate measured and simulated system responses. As a main result it is observed that the presence of nonlinearities leads to an approximated rectification of the transient system responses.
The Bundeswehr Research Institute for Protective Technologies and NBC Protection (WIS) is responsible for the evaluation of the hardness of the German armed forces' systems and devices against the threats from a nuclear electromagnetic pulse (NEMP). For this reason a NEMP test procedure has been established at the WIS, which is meanwhile accredited for performing NEMP qualification tests. The test...
Effects on computer networks due to intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI) are a well known phenomena. However, when a perturbation occurs in a real world environment the effects may not always be obvious. In case computers crash or reboot repeatedly it is clear that there is a source of malfunction. The same applies to flickering monitors or unpredictable behaviour of input devices. But...
As in all industries, electrical systems on board of modern aircraft become increasingly complex up to the point, where conventional cabling becomes inapt because of weight or size. Additionally modern materials in aircraft practically forbid classical ground referenced signals on dedicated wires. Digital data transmission by busses or networks allows a high data rate and a great reduction of wiring...
It is widely known that Ethernet networks are susceptible to high-power electromagnetics (HPEM). Even with electromagnetic disturbance levels below the threshold, at which a hardware failure of components can be observed, there are impacts on the data transmission between two computers. A typical effect on the application level is a decrease of the maximum data rate between two endpoints with a higher...
