In this paper, various types of transmission lines employing the periodically arrayed ground structure (PAGS) were fabricated on silicon substrate, and their RF characteristics were thoroughly investigated for a decision of optimal structure design. According to the results, with-contact showed wavelength shorter than other types of transmission lines and insertion loss value lower than other types...
In this work, coplanar waveguide was fabricated on flexible PES substrate, and their RF loss characteristics were extracted using transmission line theory. Concretely, several Q-factors of the coplanar waveguides were extracted using transmission line theory. Firstly, QL was characterized using the equivalent RLGC circuit. According to measured result, the QL was 25.7 at 49.8 GHz. Q-factor was also...
In this work, the meander line employing periodic ground structure (MLEPGS) was fabricated on GaAs substrate for application to a miniaturization of RF components on MMIC, and its bandwidth characteristics were thoroughly investigated. According to measured results, the MLEPGS exhibited the wavelength much shorter than conventional meander line. Concretely, the wavelength of the MLEPGS with T of 20...
In this work, the inverted comb-type capacitive transmission line (ICCTL) structure on GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) was proposed and its RF characteristics were investigated for application to a development of miniaturized on-chip passive components. According to the results, the ICCTL structure showed short wavelength characteristic due to an enhancement of its periodic capacitance...
In this work, a cascade-type gate mixer employing TSMC 0.18 µm CMOS technology was developed for application to marine disaster early warning system. The proposed gate mixer showed good RF performances. Concretely, the mixer exhibited a conversion gain of 9 dB and P1dB of 0 dBm. Especially, it showed a very low LO input power of −7 dBm due to the optimum bias design.
In this work, for application to miniaturization of RF components on MMIC(Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit), RF characteristics transmission lines employing various periodic structures on silicon semiconducting substrate were investigated. Concretely, attenuation constant, wavelength, and propagation constant of the transmission lines were investigated. According to the results, PAGS (periodically...
In this work, a miniaturized on-chip 4-way divider/combiner employing multiple coupled transmission lines was proposed for application to C/X band maritime communication system. The size of 4-way divider/combiner is 1.21 mm2, which is only 0.002 % of conventional Wilkinson type 4-way divider/combiner on PCB. The proposed 4-way divider/combiner showed good RF performances. Above results indicate that...
In this work, a highly miniaturized amplifier MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) was developed for application to a marine disaster warning system. According to measured results, the proposed amplifier MMIC showed good RF characteristics in a wide frequency range. Concretely, the Proposed amplifier MMIC showed a gain of 20 ±2 dB between 17 GHz and 27 GHz. The measured Pout was 17.79 dBm...
In this paper, using a coplanar waveguide employing periodically arrayed ground structure (PAGS) on silicon substrate, highly miniaturized passive components were developed. Concretely, multi-section transformer, 90° hybrid coupler and ring hybrid coupler were highly miniaturized compared with conventional ones. The passive components showed good RF performances over broadband.
