The noise performance of a lumped passive uniform cascade of identical element two port networks is investigated. The N-block network is characterized in close form based on the eigenvalues of the element two-port ABCD transmission matrix. The thermal noise performance is derived and demonstrated in several examples.
The transmit noise of an active antenna array is derived for several array configurations. The results are contrasted with those for a passive array. The array emitted noise power spatial distribution and total emitted noise power are derived for several active array configurations. The results are used to evaluate the implications on transmitter noise type approval tests.
