We report experimental PMD compensation in an ASK-NRZ transmission system at 43Gb/s. One- and two-section optical delay lines were evaluated. A large improvement in PMD robustness was achieved.
A fast broadband swept source for optical coherence tomography at 1,300 nm is presented. Axial resolutions as high as 3 ??m were achieved over a measuring range up to 0.5 mm.
In recent years optical coherence tomography has been used as a characterization tool of biological tissues with a ten-fold improvement in resolution when compared to ultra-sound. In this paper we present time-domain optical coherence tomography measurements of ex-vivo human samples of stomach tissue with and without neoplasia. Intra-tissue depth of 400 ??m with axial resolution of 8 ??m was achieved.
Real-time polarisation control schemes employing two multiplexed non-orthogonal reference signals are shown to provide complete control of multiple polarisation states for polarisation encoded quantum communications with negligible added noise in the quantum channel. The robustness of the control schemes to polarisation mode dispersion and induced penalties are simulated and discussed.
In this paper we briefly comment some technological limitations of the implementation of quantum cryptography employing polarization coding. We perform an experiment to demonstrate a compensation scheme for polarization coded QKD. We then apply a procedure to characterize an APD working as a photon counter operating in the single-photon regime. We finally perform a polarization coding photon counting...
