The realization of remotely pumped laser-like sources in the common air is an enabling step towards the development of new standoff sensing schemes in the atmosphere [1]. Although laser sources generating light in the opposite direction relative to that of the pumping radiation are particularly desirable, forward-emitting sources may also be useful. We present new insights into laser filament coupling to a high AC electric field strength of 100kV/m. Previous studies showed a short delay time for filament coupling. Our observations indicate a large time delay between the plasma and the discharge of the high field strength.
Intracavity Phase Interferometry is applied to the measurement of nonlinear indices with a sensitivity and accuracy outperforming the z-scan. The sample is placed in a mode-locked laser cavity in which two pulses circulate independently.
Application of a phase to frequency conversion is demonstrated to measure small magnetic fields with a sensitivity of 10nT corresponding to a polarization rotation of 2×10−9rad.
Phase to frequency conversion is demonstrated with a synchronously modelocked optical parametric oscillator, with a sensitivity of 16 MHz/radian, and a phase resolution of 9ldr10-8 radian.
The density matrix of a two-level system interacting with a near resonant field, corresponds to the circulating intensities (diagonal elements) and the beat signal of the interfering outputs (off-diagonal element) of a ring laser.
A semiconductor laser, using only a tapered amplifier as gain medium, is mode-locked with a multiple quantum well saturable absorber and RF modulation, generating 0.5 ps pulses without dispersion compensation.
