We numerically analyze broadband (up to 60 nm) conversion of transverse modes with long-period fiber gratings that are transiently introduced via the optical Kerr effect.
We numerically analyze the conversion of transverse modes with optically induced long-period Bragg gratings. These gratings are generated by a recently developed technique which uses a writing beam guided within the fiber to introduce a transient grating via the optical Kerr effect. We demonstrate several settings for conversion between different transverse modes, including conversion over a broad...
We propose and demonstrate transverse mode conversion by an optically induced long-period fiber grating. A full mode conversion is shown in numerical simulations. Experimental results with a conversion efficiency of about 50% are firstly presented.
In this paper, we have shown experimentally that transverse modes in a fibre amplifier prefer to have orthogonal polarization states at high gain. In this talk we present numerical simulations of mode interaction that support this observation. The propagation of the electrical field E is described by the Helmholtz equation. We discuss physical reasons for transverse mode coupling in active and passive...
We present a novel approach for polarization-sensitive measurement of higher-order fiber-modes and use it to analyze mode behavior in a few-mode fiber amplifier, where we show that modes prefer to have orthogonal polarization states.

We report for the first time on the polarization analysis of higher-order modes in a few-mode optical fiber using a three-mirror ring resonator. Higher-order fiber modes were generated by carefully squeezing the fiber. The power fraction of the dominating modes was measured, and we determined the polarization state which is different for each mode due to transverse variations of birefringence in the...
