This presentation will review WSS technology, the key enabler for optical mesh networking, and discuss how the WSS is expected to evolve to support advanced dynamic optical network applications such as colorless and directionless switching.
We analyze how the 50 GHz WSS port isolation spectral profile impairs the performance of 43 Gb/s NRZ-ADPSK wavelengths and find that >10 dB of isolation is needed at the center of the channel relative to the edges.
