In this paper a model predictive control scheme is defined, where freeway traffic is controlled by ramp metering strategies and by limiting vehicle speed using variable message signs. The prediction model defined for representing the system dynamic behaviour in a freeway stretch takes into account two different classes of vehicles (basically, cars and trucks). In this model, based on classical macroscopic...
Ground conductivity plays an important role both in the evaluation of the electromagnetic (EM) fields due to a lightning event and in the calculation of the line parameters, which are, in turn, fundamental in the analysis of the lightning-induced voltages on overhead lines. The exact formulation of the EM fields over a lossy ground involves the numerical evaluation of the Sommerfeld integrals, which...
In this paper we consider the classic second-order macroscopic traffic model, commonly known as the PW model. Firstly, we extend it to a two-class case, in which we consider the simultaneous presence of slow and fast vehicles. Moreover, we determine some numerical constraints useful for realizing a stable simulation implementing equations somehow derived from differential partial equations.
