A near-complete, partially articulated skeleton of a hummingbird was recently found in the menilite shales of the Polish Flysh Carpathians. Today, these species inhabit a variety of habitats, including fresh water, woodland, shrubland, and various open environments. The species inhabiting the latter category are the most numerous.
