We introduce a special issue of Personality and Individual Differences which presents a cross-section of papers which were presented at the 2011 meeting of the International Society for the Study of Individual Differences in London, England. We summarize previous behavioral genetic contributions to the study of individual differences and discuss the challenges facing the field in the future.
