We investigate the polarization dependence of optical nonlinearity enhancement for a uniaxial anisotropic composite of metal nanocrystals in a dielectric host. Three cases are distinguished depending on whether the polarization is parallel, perpendicular or unpolarized with respect to the axis of anisotropy. For parallel polarization, the results show that the 3D results are qualitatively similar...
The purpose of this Comment is to point out that the recently published variational estimate of Yu and Gu [Phys. Lett. A 193 (1994) 311; 205 (1995) 295] is indeed an upper bound that can be systematically improved and to clarify a claim in a recently published Letter by Gao and Li [Phys. Lett. A 222 (1996) 207].
