Metal film materials have been widely used in optical devices, green energy field, biosensor technologies, and so on. In these applications, the properties of metal surface play the significant role. However, propagation characteristics of light in metal-based materials are still confusing. Wavelength-dependent refraction going from negative to positive at air/metal interface was reported in previous...
Heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) is considered to be the next major hard disk drive (HDD) technology for areal densities beyond ∼1.5 Tb/in2 [1]. In HAMR, each high anisotropy magnetic grain is heated close to, or above, its Curie temperature (Tc), then freezed in a new magnetization direction with an effective magnetic field as the grain cools down. As recent theoretical recording simulations...
We report the fabrication and characterization of a mechanically flexible 4 4 array of organic semiconductor lasers using blue-emitting tris(trifluorene)truxene oligomers as the gain medium. The device was fabricated entirely by soft lithography from the reproduction of a 1-D silica master grating. The grating array pattern was created directly on the master by a polymeric mask. Each element,...
Solid-state dye samples based on modified polymethyl methacrylate with methanol (MPMMA) co-doped with pyrromethene 567 (PM567) and coumarin 460 (C460) were prepared. The effects of C460 concentration on the laser performances of the solid-state dye mediums, including spectra property, laser slope efficiency and photostability were studied. The highest laser slope efficiency of 66.66% was obtained...
The energy output characteristics, temporal profile and spectral characteristics of xenon-lamp pumped dye (PM580) laser with different molar concentrations were investigated in this paper. The experimental setup adopts the ordinary industrial products without special design. Output energies have been achieved with energy conversion efficiency and slope efficiency of almost 0.336% and 0.36%.
We demonstrate direct-coupling of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers to suspended-core PCFs and present characterization of this gas sensor. The spectral background and power-overlap from 763-2004 nm are measured to determine the quantitative detection sensitivity.
An ultrasonic motor (USM) of the friction type is driven by the friction force between the stator and the rotor. However the classical Coulomb friction law can not be used to explain the driven mechanism of an ultrasonic motor under the condition of high frequency vibration between the stator and the rotor. In our early study[1], a vibration friction model was offered to explain a phenomenon in an...
Terahertz generation from gaseous media was further investigated by a gas jet system. The experimental results reveal that the terahertz radiation amplitude is correlated with the third order nonlinear susceptibility.
Alpha-particle induced soft error rates (SER) due to naturally occurring radioisotopes in process metals are a serious reliability issue for deep-submicron CMOS technologies where continued scaling reduces the critical charge required to upset sensitive drains, in, for example, the off MOSET of an SRAM cell. With increased scaling the subsequent diffusion of charge from an ion strike covers a larger...
A planar lightwave circuit with a length-imbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer and an arrayed waveguide grating radiating into free-space generates nonlinearly spatially dispersed light. This arrangement is advantageous for mitigating mirror edge effect in MEMS-based components.
Among many others, absorbance measurement is one of the most useful techniques to determine sample concentration on a microfluidic chip. The main drawback of this technique comes from the limited optical path length that can be achieved on a chip. We propose here an original design of a microfluidic dye laser to perform intracavity absorption measurements. The effective optical path length and so...
