This paper explores the effect of a distributed control system for the charging of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles utilizing an agent-based approach in a smart grid. The vehicles are regarded as additional loads in addition to a primary forecasted load and use information transfer with the grid to make their charging decisions. MATLAB was used as the simulation tool to design the control strategy...
This paper will focus on the development of a virtual walkthrough of CH and Undercroft of UTP. The virtual walkthrough is developed in 2 ½ dimensional in order to reduce the size of the virtual walkthrough. Besides that, the virtual walkthrough is available on the Internet so that it can be easily obtainable and accessible by people. The existing visualization of both CH and Undercroft of UTP does...
We theoretically demonstrate that there is an angle of incidence and frequency at which a p-polarized electromagnetic wave can be perfectly absorbed without reflection by a semi-infinite space of lossy indefinite anisotropic medium. Unlike isotropic lossy materials (where the total absorption occurs for a finite-thickness layers only) in our case it happens for a lossy half-space. We show that this...
In this paper, the 3D model of a LED luminaire is built using the software Pro/Engineer and then the model is transferred to ANSYS Workbench platform where the LED luminaire under the temperature and humidity conditions during step stress accelerated degradation test (SSADT) is simulated. The simulation results of temperature distribution, humidity distribution and stress distribution of the model...
There has been a significant increase in the number of current or planned space-based Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors over the last decade. Despite this, resolutions and exploitation capabilities have developed only relatively slowly. One reason for this may be the cost and availability of high fidelity, fine resolution imaging systems that can provide data in a scientifically convenient format...
This paper sets out a novel approach to vehicle taxation by focusing upon the impact that vehicle journeys make upon the road network and the environment. A simple approach is proposed in the short term that would not require complex invehicle equipment to be fitted. In the longer term elements of congestion charging by time, distance and place could be introduced. The focus is upon charging for the...
The main focus of the construction industry is to ensure that projects are successfully completed within the constraints of best quality, stated period and at minimum cost possible. The implementation of QMS in Construction Industry is meant to assist the industry to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization management system in ensuring successful objectives of company. This study...
In this paper we construct a Petri net for a given symmetric group with a generating set. We show that if this net has a subset of places which are both siphon and trap then the dual of this net has a correspondence with carbon cycle, one of the major biogeochemical cycles.
We report on a hybrid reflective electroabsorption modulator-based photonic integrated circuit, demonstrating error-free 25.3Gb/s duobinary transmission (BER<1×10−12) over 35km of SSMF. Colourless operation with 1.2dB OSNR variation over the C-band is confirmed.
For the first time, simulations have analysed the feasibility of 100Gb/s CAP and OFDM systems over SMF links using 18.6GHz directly modulated lasers. We have shown that CAP-16/16-QAM-OFDM and CAP-64/64-QAM-OFDM over a single channel can successfully support transmission over 2km SMF, with power dissipation of ∼2 times that of a 4×25Gb/s NRZ system.
Because of their luminescent properties, phosphors make excellent candidates for radiation detectors. The materials are inclined to luminesce when exposed to a variety of radiation sources including gammas, protons, alphas and so forth. However, the vast majority of research and use of phosphors as radiation sensors are as scintillators—when luminescence spontaneously occurs due to the incident radiation...
Ad hoc networks have been proved to be suitable for disaster scenarios since any infrastructure need to be deployed in order to establish a wireless network. Routing protocols play an important role in the performance of mobile ad hoc networks. Routing protocols are responsible for deciding how the information is going to move through the network. Although one paramount parameter of ad hoc networks...
This paper describes an experiment that evaluates the application usability concerning of two types of feedback, they are anthropomorphic and non-anthropomorphic. The aim of this research is to examine whether such approaches are effective or liked by the user. With regards to this, a tutorial prototype application specifically in learning a photography technique developed as a model for this experiment...
Direct power control (DPC) has been proposed and well developed for its distinguished advantages such as simplicity, robustness, excellent steady-state and dynamic response. This paper presents a comparative study of DPC strategies of AC/DC converters for renewable energy generation. First, the advantages and disadvantages of each strategy are given by control theory investigation. In addition, virtual...
This paper deals with bearing steel with spheroidal cementite dispersed in a ferrite matrix subjected to ultrasonic nanocrystalline surface modification (UNSM) treatment. Carbon migration microstructure development, including grain size refinement and dissolution of cementite, was studied utilizing electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Accumulated multiple...
The emerging IEEE 802.15.4 wireless communication standard is designed for a low data rate, low power consumption and low range wireless transmissions wireless personal area networks (WPANs). The improvement of this technology for the transmission of information at high rate such as video is a challenge that gives us the opportunity to support additional services. This paper deals with the feasibility...
Oxide-free lithographic vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are characterized for their thermal properties. VCSELs with minimum threshold temperatures < 20 °C demonstrate lasing at heat sink temperatures ≥ 190 °C, with high rollover cavity temperatures.
Dassow, Paun and Salomaa (1993) defined a generative device called pattern grammar. Abisha, Subramanian and Thomas (2000) introduced a new type of grammar called Pure Pattern grammar, in which they examined parallel communicating grammar systems with all components different from the master being pure pattern grammar. Dersanambika, Krithivasan and Subramanian (2004) introduced a new type of grammar...
This paper reports on the ongoing development of a millimetre-wave (MMW) radar for autonomous vehicles. This radar will be used for obstacle detection and high-resolution mapping of the local environment.
In this paper we introduce a new graph generative device called hyper edge replacement graph P system. We consider the application of the hyper edge replacement graph rewriting rules in the regions of a parallel rewriting P system with a feature of conditional communication. We examine the generative power of this hyper edge replacement graph P system and obtain some fruitful results.
