Differentiation of adenoviruses from reoviruses on the ground of their size, symmetry and shape is imposible. However, it is easy to perform this differentiation basing on the finding that uranyl acetate stains positively the cores of adenovirions containing DNA and does not stain those of reovirions which possess RNA.
Attempts of the virus isolation from crusts of sheep suspected of ecthyma were made by means of infection of chick embryos and various tissue cultures. The attempts of infection of embryos remained unsuccessful. The cytopathic effect occurred most early and distinctly after infection of calf testis cell cultures. The virus proliferated in cell cultures and contained in crusts has been identified as...
The work represents the isolation trials of active haemagglutinin from parainfluenza-3 virus, using urea and sodium desoxycholate as lipid solvents. Urea caused almost total disintegration of virions and haemagglutinin inactivation. Sodium desoxycholate set free active haemagglutinins without destruction of the remaining viral subunits.
The technique widely applied since longest in concentration and purification of animal viruses, consists in precipitation of viruses from suspensions of the cells broken, by means of ammonium sulphate and its elution by means of neutral or alkaline buffers (Brown and Kolmer, 1937). Among other techniques, which appeared to be suitable to such or other degree, the techniques of precipitation by means...
In the preliminary cytogenetic investigations carried out on 40 cows of the lowland black-and-white breed, in which leukaemia has been diagnosed clinically and post mortem, numerous cases of chromosomal aberration were observed concerning usually somatic chromosomes, although some cases of aberration of sexual chromosomes occurred as well (6). There are many similar reports (3, 4, 5, 7, 8). The aberration...
The results of numerous investigations on structure and replication of the parainfluenza-3 virus (P1-3) are not always in accordance. It is true, among other things, for appearance of inclusion bodies in infected cells, what is of importance for diagnostical examinations. These bodies were not observed by Cochen et al. (4) in the amnion cells of hen or man infected with the strain of this virus isolated...
In the course of investigations on viral etiology of bovine leucoses, the necessity arose of obtaining continuous cultures of cells representing anatomo-pathological changes typical for this disease. The hitherto investigations carried out mainly by Chatziolos and Chang (2) and Dutcher et al. (1), are insufficient, as they comprised observation of too simall number of passages of such cells. Only...
