Further efficiency improvement is achieved by the multiple turns of primary winding for air gapped coaxial transformer, aimed at wireless power transmission for railways. The theoretical analysis predicts the higher efficiency by increase of primary winding turns. Theoretical analysis and verification experiments are shown, including 98.9 % efficiency.
A large area (150mm) high voltage (6.5kV) Reverse Conducting-Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristor (RC-IGCT) has been developed for low frequency high power electronics applications. The devices were fabricated with GCT to diode active area ratio of 1.4. The RC-IGCT wafers were designed with an outer ring gate structure to minimize the stray impedance for the gate signal and also to improve the thermal...

This paper presents a modular approach of 300 kVA power converter operating with superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES), which gives high dynamics together with high power and suitable capability for instantaneous energy storage. Analysis and simulation...
This paper compares the design and performance of two controls for half-bridge converters with LCL output filters based on Virtual Circuit Design method, which is an intuitive way to achieve desired closed-loop behaviours as well as resonance damping and low-frequency behaviours. The first control is represented by a circuit employing a resistor in series with a converter-side inductor to stabilize...
Compressed-air systems account for a notable share of the industrial electricity consumption. At the same time, a significant potential to improve the energy efficiency of compressed-air generation has been recognized. Variable-speed drives provide an efficient and flexible way to regulate the output of a screw compressor and to match the typically intermittent demand of compressed air. In addition...
A grid-connected inverter with energy storage and active DC-link voltage balancer circuit is presented. The system is implemented with two identical 100kW three-phase converters. The operating limits of the system under asymmetric grid currents with the given hardware architecture are considered and solutions for symmetrisation of the DC-link are proposed.
The subject of this paper is to propose a design method of the EMI filters that allows to minimize the volume of the common-mode inductor with consideration of core saturation issues. Inductor volume depends not only on its inductance value, but also on the relationship between the filter and its environment which can saturate the magnetic material due to many parameters, especially when the filter...
This paper presents an estimation procedure of equivalent electric circuit parameters of a lithium-ion cell using data from a pulse charge/discharge test. An extraction process of the model parameters is based on a transient voltage response of relaxation process following a current pulse. The entire procedure is straightforward and there is no restriction in a number of parallel RC-branches in the...
Misalignment during wireless charging of EVs can lead to low efficiencies (<85%) of power transfer which can lead to thermal issues and high leakage fields. This paper explores the most optimal solution towards a misalignment tolerant system. To that end, a DD-DDQ coil system with series-series compensation combined with an impedance matching control algorithm is explored. A multi-objective optimization...
A v-shaped interior permanent magnet (1PM) and a surface mounted permanent magnet (SMPM) machines with the same dimensions and magnet volume are used as WEC generators and are evaluated using the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) method. The most optimal design from the economical perspective is determined to be the SMPM.
This paper presents an interleaved multiphase hybrid buck-boost DC/DC converter. This converter type provides high efficiency and can be used for applications with wide voltage conversion ratio. At the beginning, the circuit function and the design of a single-phase converter is described. With a multiphase design, the filter circuit effort can be significantly reduced. In these circuits the different...
This paper describes the design of a DC grid as a utility grid of a business park. The center of the DC grid is a DC substation. The DC substation is supplied from the MV AC grid. With a transformer and an Active Front-End, the AC voltage of 10 kV is transformed into 750 VDC. At customer side, the 750 VDC is converted to the required DC voltage for his application.
This paper provides conclusions on design and laboratory tests of a hybrid rectifier prototype which employs the newest generation of SiC transistors and diodes. For the presented hardware prototype the AC-DC efficiency is about 98%. Based on simulation analysis and the practical realization pros and cons of this topology were identified. It should be noted that hybrid rectifiers importance is growing...
DC is regarded as an attractive alternative to conventional AC technology in collection networks for large-scale wind and PV generation systems. Playing the role in the stepping up voltage and exporting the power from the individual generation units, DC/DC converters are one of the most crucial parts of the DC collector. Isolated medium-power DC/DC converters would require a medium voltage medium...
This paper introduces a control method for Reverse-Conducting (RC-)IGBTs which reduces the control dead time of RC-IGBT inverters. Switching measurements with 6.5 kV RC-IGBTs concerning the applicability of the introduced control method and the effect of a load current direction change during the desaturation pulse are presented.
Direct torque control (DTC), which is one type of PMSM drive system, can realize maximum-torque-per-ampere (MTPA) control and flux-weakening control by yielding an optimum target magnetic flux. In this paper, we propose armature reaction flux control that can achieve flux weakening control for PMSM control systems using DTC. Our proposed control focuses on the equivalence of the reactive power, which...
We propose a MHz-switching-speed current-source gate driver for Silicon-Carbide (SiC) power MOSFETs. The proposed gate driver uses an inductor as a current source during switching transient. Compared with a conventional gate driver, the proposed gate driver reduces switching time ioff and ion by 20% and 32% respectively.
This paper presents a set of system equations of a dual stator induction machine (DSIM) and a new approach for online parameter identification including its verification through simulation and measurements. An uneven current share between the two three-phase systems of a DSIM is used to determine machine parameters online.
The paper presents a technique of parameter stabilization of a wireless, resonance based energy transfer system for maximizing its power. The technique combines tuning of resonant frequency by means of variable capacitance and adjustment of magnetic coupling to maximize power. The paper presents experimental test results on a laboratory prototype of the system.
