In this invited paper, we describe a rate-adaptive FEC scheme based on LDPC codes together with its software reconfigurable unified FPGA architecture. By FPGA emulation, we demonstrate that this class of rate-adaptive LDPC codes based on shortening with an overhead from 25% to 42.9% provides a coding gain ranging from 13.08 dB to 14.28 dB at a post-FEC BER of 10−15 for BPSK transmission. In addition,...
Generative models of 3D human motion are often restricted to a small number of activities and can therefore not generalize well to novel movements or applications. In this work we propose a deep learning framework for human motion capture data that learns a generic representation from a large corpus of motion capture data and generalizes well to new, unseen, motions. Using an encoding-decoding network...
Effective integration of local and global contextual information is crucial for dense labeling problems. Most existing methods based on an encoder-decoder architecture simply concatenate features from earlier layers to obtain higher-frequency details in the refinement stages. However, there are limits to the quality of refinement possible if ambiguous information is passed forward. In this paper we...
In this invited paper, both binary and nonbinary LDPC codes suitable for optical transmission systems are described. The corresponding FPGA implementation has been discussed as well. The use of adaptive LDPC coding to deal with time-varying optical channel conditions is described as well.
In this paper, we mainly focus on the optimization of multi-level coded modulation scheme in terms of sub-channel code rate optimal assignment and irregular QC-LDPC code construction with the aid of EXIT chart analysis. Simulation results show that the proposed MLCM scheme can achieve additional 0.1dB NCG compared with the UEP coded modulation scheme.
The latest High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) has been increasingly used to generate video streams over Internet. However, the decoded HEVC video streams may incur severe quality degradation, especially at low bit-rates. Thus, it is necessary to enhance visual quality of HEVC videos at the decoder side. To this end, we propose in this paper a Decoder-side Scalable Convolutional Neural Network (DS-CNN)...
Panoramic streaming enables users to interactively navigate through high-spatial resolution videos and create an immersive and personalized user experience. Since transmission of high-resolution videos in desirable quality is not feasible given the limited throughput of access and home network links, our work is based on tile-based streaming, where only a spatial subset of the video is transmitted...
The fast growth of surveillance video big data presents great challenges to the video coding technology. Most existing video coding techniques target for visual quality optimization, while the ultimate utility of surveillance videos mainly lies in intelligent analyses, e.g., pedestrian detection and vehicle tracking. In view of this, we aim at proposing an efficient, standard-compatible and simultaneously...
With the rise and popular of artificial intelligence, the technology of conversation between human and machine get more and more attention. Using neural network model on the Encoder-Decoder framework has been wildly used in translation and human-machine conversation. This paper we propose a new hybrid neural network model (HNN) which consists of some essential neural network models (that is RNN, LSTM,...
Mobile, wearable, and implantable devices integrate an increasing number and variety of sensors such as microphones, image sensors, and accelerometers. These devices spend substantial amounts of time reading the sensors within them, thereby incurring significant energy dissipation over off-chip serial interconnects. This paper proposes AXSERBUS, a quality-configurable approximate serial bus that exploits...
A great deal of interest has been paid to computation problem of Dezert-Smarandache theory (DSmT). But there are still problems on complex analysis and frequently search. The computational measurement of DSmT is presented in which the computation is generated in the search for focal elements, the combination of focal elements and basic belief assignment, the expression of focal elements. A new DSmT...
Energy efficiency and reliability are a pair of the most important factors in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Recent research results have demonstrated that the previously suggested scheme of the joint network-coding-compressive-sensing can greatly improve the energy efficiency and the communication reliability of WSNs. In this paper, we propose a practical scheme, Non-Binary Joint Network-Coding...
The rising interest in applications requiring the transmission of small amounts of data has recently lead to the development of accurate performance bounds and of powerful channel codes for the transmission of short-data packets over the AWGN channel. Much less is known about the interaction between error control coding and channel estimation at short blocks when transmitting over channels with states...
In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient soft- in soft-out (SISO) equalization for block Markov superposition transmission (BMST) in the coded OFDM system (called BMST-OFDM) over high-mobility wireless communication channels. In the BMST-OFDM system, the proposed SISO equalizer can exchange soft messages with the soft demapper and the BMST decoder in an iterative fashion. Simulation results...
Interference forwarding by a relay enhances the interference level and enables the cancellation of the interference. If the interfering source to relay link is not strong, then the relay can decode a part of the interference and forward it to the destination, and the destination can cancel only that part of the interference. It is known as partial decode-and-forward (PDF) and partial interference...
The present work describes the PPM — Prediction by Partial (string) Matching algorithm for lossless compression of text. It studies the procedure of extending the source alphabet for the PPM encoding in order to allow using of symbols not yet present in the source alphabet at the very beginning of the process of text encoding. The work describes the procedure of extending the alphabet and presents...
In this paper, we address the need for motivating applications, such as mission critical industrial control and medical applications, to operate under the Ultra-Reliable Communication (URC) mode in the future 5th Generation (5G) cellular wireless networks, while also under strict Quality of Service (QoS) constraints such as ultra-low latency. Reliability has been shown to improve by using Hybrid Automatic...
With the development of high-speed trains (HST), efficient and reliable communication services in high mobility scenarios have become an urgent demand. As one of the strong candidates in 5G wireless system, polar codes along with its optimized design should also be investigated under high mobility scenarios. In this paper, a scheme of hash-concatenated polar codes is proposed to reduce the false alarm...
This paper proposes a new graph-based practical encoding and joint belief propagation (BP) decoding techniques for two-vehicle communicating simultaneously with another vehicle or a roadside unit. The proposed scheme achieves any rate pair close to the capacity region without using time sharing. While at the encoders, the corresponding parity check matrices are randomly built from a half-rate matrix,...
Fountain codes are used in many applications where the channels are time varying and it is difficult at the transmitter to predict the appropriate code rate. In this situation, fixedrate codes are not suitable. Despite the good performance of fountain codes, universally optimal codes do not exist in the finite-length regime. In this paper, we design new fountain codes that are robust to the communication...
