Cloud computing is the future generation concept in the field of computing characterized by three main entities i.e. Software, Hardware and Network. Cloud computing technology is designed to increase capacity or add new capabilities on the existing system without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel, or licensing new software. Clouds nowadays are becoming the new building blocks...
Holon is a powerful metaphor which captures the recursive structure of biological systems and the organization of their decision processes arranged at various granularity abstraction levels. From a computational intelligence perspective, a holon can be conceived as a goal-oriented community of lower-level holons led by more specific targets. Sub-holons co-operate on sub-problems that represent the...
Modern cars are equipped with a variety of sensors, advanced driver assistance systems and user interfaces nowadays. To benefit from these systems and to optimally support the driver in his monitoring and decision making process, efficient human-machine interfaces play an important part. This paper describes the second release of iDriver, an iPad software solution which was developed to navigate and...
Social robots must adapt to dynamic environments, human interaction partners and challenging new stringent tasks. Their inner software should be designed and deployed carefully because slight changes in the robot's requirements can have an important impact in the existing code. This paper focus on the design and implementation of a lightweight middleware for networked robotics called \textit{Nerve},...
Any changes for maintenance or evolution purposes may break existing working features, or may violate the requirements established in the previous software releases. Regression testing is essential to avoid these problems, but it may be ended up with executing many time-consuming test cases. This paper tries to address prioritizing requirements-based regression test cases. To this end, system-level...
Designed and implemented in the 1980's, the Advanced Multi-Mission Operations System (AMMOS) was a breakthrough for deep-space NASA missions, enabling significant reductions in the cost and risk of implementing ground systems. By designing a framework for use across multiple missions and adaptability to specific mission needs, AMMOS developers created a set of applications that have operated dozens...
Service computing aims to provide IT and computing resources to users in a way that it simply serves them. However, many issues remain in, such as portability, interoperability, and heterogeneity of diverse services, in addition to service modeling, creation, deployment, discovery, recommendation, composition, and delivery, in order to provide a service that best fits user needs and contexts at the...
Japan, along with many developed countries, is facing severe social problems caused by a declining birth rate. Gradual shrinkage of the working population has brought shortages of workers performing various services such as elderly care. Women are potential workers, but social assistance of working women remains insufficient. Social services such as elderly care and support for working women must...
Educational software is defined as a computer software primarily used by students for the purpose of self-learning, practice making and self-testing. Teaching software out of educational ones will be studied and contribution of fuzzy logic model, one of the artificial intelligence techniques, to educational software will be discussed in the study. Existing data is assessed with the aim of solving...
The Department of Defense's future vision for Network Centric Operations (NCO) will increase combat power by networking relevant entities across the battlefield. This will result in highly complex mission scenarios in which the operator's workload will be easily overloaded if the system is not designed to support the mission requirements. New technologies for these complex command and control environments...
The paper describes the way in which some results on the human subjects stability were obtained. It presents also a flexible method for the statistical data treatment to improve the information that could lead to some efficient solutions to correct any disabilities on stability or locomotion.
In this paper we proposed a motion classifier using Microsoft Kinect. The main algorithm was based on Dynamic Time Warping (DTW). We tested the classifier with 7 motions. The experimental results showed that DTW coupled with human joint positions captured by Microsoft Kinect were capable of classifying the selected motions.
New possibilities in information technology and new challenges in higher education stimulate revising earlier concepts and methods in computer system based higher education processes. As a contribution to these activities, this paper makes an attempt to evaluate results in virtual classroom processes during the past decade in order to outline a concept for next future research. The authors cite and...
In this paper, we propose a game-based public testing mechanism called GATE. The purpose of GATE is to make use of the rich human resource on the Internet to help increase effectiveness in software testing and improve test adequacy. GATE facilitates public testing in three main steps: 1) decompose the test criterion satisfaction problem into many smaller sub-model satisfaction problems; 2) construct...
Our research group recently discovered that human analysts, when asked to validate candidate traceability matrices, produce predictably imperfect results, in some cases less accurate than the starting candidate matrices. This discovery radically changes our understanding of how to design a fast, accurate and certifiable tracing process that can be implemented as part of software assurance activities...
Programmers use refactoring to improve the design of existing code without changing external behavior. Current research does not empirically answer the question, "Why and how do programmers refactor functional programs?" In order to answer the question, I conducted a case study on three open source projects in Haskell. I investigated changed portions of code in 55 successive versions of...
Understanding software behaviour can help in a variety of software engineering tasks if one can develop effective techniques for analyzing the information generated from a system's run. These techniques often rely on tracing. Traces, however, can be considerably large and complex to process. In this paper, we present an innovative approach for trace analysis inspired by the way the human brain and...
Software is created by people for people working in varied environments, under various conditions. Thus understanding cooperative and human aspects of software development is crucial to comprehend how methods and tools are used, and thereby improve the creation and maintenance of software. Over the years, both researchers and practitioners have recognized the need to study and understand these aspects...
This paper describes a new tool - ASHAN ('Alphabets and Scripts by Hand and Audio, Naturally') - for learning scripts and languages. The problem of illiteracy is universal affecting about 16% of the human race. Only technological tools can accelerate the process of meeting the millennium goals as the paradigms of learning and teaching are changing. ASHAN - a computer with a touch screen and special...
Requirements assurance aims to increase confidence in the quality of requirements through independent audit and review. One important and effort intensive activity is assurance of the traceability matrix (TM). In this, determining the correctness and completeness of the many-to-many relationships between functional and non-functional requirements (NFRs) is a particularly tedious and error prone activity...
