Od ponad 2,5 roku budujemy w Polsce system gospodarki odpadami opakowaniowymi, oparty na prawie unijnym w tym zakresie. Prawo to stworzone jest poprzez dyrektywę Parlamentu i Rady Europejskiej z 1994 r. o opakowaniach i odpadach opakowaniowych, znowelizowaną na początku bieżącego roku.
W ostatnim numerze miesięcznika "Recykling" [7-8 (43-44)/2004] opublikowany został artykuł pt. "Środowisko non profit" autorstwa Pana Dariusza Matlaka z Polskiej Izby Gospodarki Odpadami. Ponieważ główne tezy w nim zaprezentowane są, delikatnie określając, dyskusyjne, pragnę przedstawić Czytelnikom odmienne stanowisko.
W ciągu ostatnich dwóch lat zagadnieniu tworzenia "zielonych miejsc pracy" w Polsce poświęcono kilka konferencji, którym patronowało Ministerstwo Środowiska. Podczas nich wskazano przede wszystkim szanse tworzenia miejsc pracy w ochronie środowiska w związku z nowymi regulacjami prawnymi, wynikającymi z akcesji Polski do Unii Europejskiej.

FEAD (Federation des Europeene Activites du Dechet et de l'Environnement), czyli Europejska Federacja Gospodarki Odpadami zrzesza 19 narodowych stowarzyszeń gospodarki odpadami, z czego 12 z nich pochodzi z krajów członkowskich UE, a 4 z krajów stowarzyszonych, w tym z Polski, a także z Europy Środkowej, Wschodniej oraz z Norwegii.
