Four species of the genus Entedon DALMAN (Eulophidae: Entedoninae) are recorded from Poland for the first time: Entedon cardui ASKEW (Lower Silesia), E. fuscitarsis THOMSON (Western Sudety Mts and Eastern Beskidy Mts), E. sparetus WALKER (Lower Silesia) and E. sylvestris SZELENYI (Lower Silesia).
This paper deals with a faunistic research on Tenebrionidae (Coleoptera) from Golestan Province. In total, nine species from five subfamilies of Diaperinae, Lagriinae, Opatrinae, Pimeliinae, and Tenebrioninae were collected and identified. Blaps gigas (LINNAEUS, 1767) is a new species for Iranian fauna.
The Black Woodpecker Dryocopus martius excavates nesting holes in big trees and use dead wood for foraging. It is considered as a key and an indicator species in the protection of biodiversity of forest ecosystems, because its cavities condition the possibility of breeding the biggest secondary cavity−nesters, bats, and some species of wasps. We studied preferences of the Black Woodpecker towards...
The paper synthesizes the knowledge on the impact of silvicultural treatments on bat populations. Forest management affects stand structure and composition, and silvicultural treatments exert both positive or negative impact on the activity of individual bat species. Studies published on the issue suggest that forest management may prove useful for the conservation of bat populations, especially in...
The study embraced 159 nest boxes placed in three different study plots in the Wielkopolski National Park in western Poland. In the first season, 64% of nest boxes were occupied by four species: great tit Parus major, blue tit Cyanistes caeruleus, Eurasian nuthatch Sitta europaea and European pied flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca. The dominant species were great and blue tits. Over 80% of broods of great...
Woodpeckers are a very good indicators of forest naturalness. The fact that many species of these birds are in decline in central and western Europe resulted from changes in forest management (e.g. favouring coniferous forest, removal of dead trees). The aim of this research was to evaluate the importance of patches of deciduous species for the occurrence of some specialized woodpeckers in the conditions...
