Osławiona dyrektywa 2002/96/WE z 27 stycznia 2003 r. zagościła już na stałe w polskiej świadomości i została w naszym kraju wdrożona w zniekształconej wersji zwanej ustawą z 29 lipca 2005 r. o zużytym sprzęcie elektrycznym i elektronicznym. Nakłada ona wiele obowiązków na wszystkich uczestniczących w cyklu życia sprzętu elektrycznego lub elektronicznego. Niektóre z nich są bardziej uciążliwe od innych.
Po wielu perturbacjach weszła w życie ustawa o zużytym sprzęcie elektrycznym i elektronicznym. Pierwotnie artykuł miał być polemiką z Jerzym Ziają z OIGR, który we wrześniowym numerze "Recyklingu" umieścił rekordową ilość mylnych opinii, ale ostatecznie nakreślony zostanie pozytywny plan przyszłego działania producentów AGD i elektroniki.
Pod koniec lipca została przyjęta ostateczna wersja ustawy o zużytym sprzęcie elektrycznym i elektronicznym. Transponuje ona do prawa krajowego wymagania UE zawarte w dyrektywie 2002/96/WE z 27 stycznia 2003 r. Ustawa określa wymagania, jakim powinien odpowiadać sprzęt elektryczny i elektroniczny oraz zasady postępowania z zużytym sprzętem w celu ograniczenia ilości odpadów.
