Dziurawce (Hypericum) to rodzaj obejmujący ponad 500 gatunków roślin występujących w strefie klimatu umiarkowanego półkuli północnej. Nazwa rodzajowa „dziurawiec” nawiązuje do cechy morfologicznej polegającej na tworzeniu w strukturze liści przezroczystych gruczołków gromadzących olejki eteryczne. Przepuszczają one światło, dlatego liście oglądane pod słońcem wyglądają, jakby były podziurkowane szpilką.
