In this review fundamentals of optical parametric oscillator and different phase matching situation have been discussed. Requirement of nonlinear crystal and properties of some mid-IR and IR transmitting crystal have been discussed. Present status of generation of tunable radiation in mid-IR to IR spectral range by OPO based on ZnGeP2 crystal and other techniques and its applications has been discussed.
A Tm laser pumped Mid-IR all solid-state laser is reported. A thulium laser is used to directly drive a ZnGeP2 optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with 1.99μm output to generate the 3∼5μm wavelength. Diode pumped Tm:YAP laser operates on 1.99μm, repetition frequency of 10KHz, the optical to optical conversion efficiency is 28%. The all solid-state Mid-IR laser runs at room temperature and achieves...
A tunable mid-infrared optical parametric oscillator (OPO) has been demonstrated using a single ZnGeP 2 (ZGP) crystal. A KTP OPO was pumped by an Nd:YAG laser to generate 2.02 μm-signal wave at the output, which is used for pumping a singly resonant angle-tuned ZGP OPO to generate mid-IR tunable from 5.5 to 9.3 μm. Maximum pump to idler (2–8 μm) conversion efficiency obtained, was ∼8.25%,...
