In order to improve system optical signal-to-noise ratio, low-loss and low-nonlinearity fibers are demanded for ultra-long-haul and high-capacity digital coherent transmission systems, such as transoceanic systems. In order to meet the demand, we have realized a pure-silica-core fiber with ultra-low loss of 0.15 dB/km and large effective area (Aeff) of 130 μm2 (PSCF-130). Recently, transmission systems...
Pure-silica-core fiber having enlarged Aeff of 130µm2 is confirmed to have low macro-, micro-bending losses and high figure-of-merit in both C- and L-bands, indicating applicability of this PSCF to broadband transmission system.
OSNR improvement related to fiber loss and Aeff is theoretically and experimentally investigated in hybrid Raman/EDFA amplified systems. Pure-silica-core fiber with Aeff of 110µm2 is appropriate for terrestrial long-haul links, exhibiting optimal OSNR performance.
