It was found that aqueous solutions of methylene blue with ascorbic acid exhibit decolouration by visible light. The process is fully reversible and dependent on the concentration of ascorbic acid. The effect is most pronouns in the range pH from 4 to 5. The mechanism of the process is proposed.
