In this paper, a new modular linear flux-switching permanent magnet machine is presented. The operation principle is illustrated in detail. The electromagnetic performance analysis of the machine is carried out by the finite-element method. To investigate the influence of the mover pole pitch to stator pole pitch ratio on the new modular machine, the proposed machines with three different ratios are...
Linear flux-switching permanent magnet (LFSPM) motor attracts widely attention due to its high power density and high efficiency, in which both concentrated windings and PMs are on the short primary mover. Hence, it is very suitable for long stator applications such as urban rail transportations. However, a large numbers of existing LFSPM motors are obtained from simply splitting and unrolling the...
The linear flux-switching permanent-magnet (LFSPM) motor offers high power density, high efficiency and low cost, suitable for urban rail transit applications. However, due to its significant detent force induced by both slot-effect and end-effect, this motor still suffers from severe thrust ripple. In this paper, a new thrust ripple minimization approach is proposed, in which the proper harmonic...
The modular linear flux-switching permanent-magnet (M-LFSPM) motor is a newly investigated brushless AC (BLAC) machine having magnets and armature windings in the mover. Due to its reduced cost, improved effiency and enhanced fault tolerance, this motor is very suitable for high reliability urban rail transit applications. This paper proposes and implements a new constant-total magnetomotive force...
Linear permanent magnet machines have been increasingly used in several applications that require high reliability and good dynamic characteristics. In this paper, a novel double-sided design of a 5φ permanent magnet flux-switching linear synchronous machine (FSLSM) with a yokeless translator is proposed. The proposed design is analyzed using finite-element methods and is found to have high thrust...
Based on the principle of rotational flux-switching permanent magnet machines, a novel double-sides long primary flux-switching permanent magnet linear motor is proposed for electromagnetic launch systems. Compared with traditional induction and synchronous linear machines used in EMLS, the proposed is more suitable for EMLS because of high thrust density and simple structure of the secondary. Firstly,...
A novel permanent magnet flux-switching linear motor is investigated in this paper. It is cost-effective, since the magnets and coils are both set in the mover, while the long stator is only made of laminated iron core. This simple motor structure costs much lower than other conventional types. Finite element analysis (FEA) shows that, with proper design, the performance can be rather good.
