We present real-time waveform characterization of ultrashort pulses by the use of a pulse-front tilt in frequency-resolved optical gating capable of carrier-envelope phase determination. Simultaneous measurement of cross-correlation frequency-resolved optical gating and electro-optic sampling signals has been realized without scanning any delays. Complete waveform characterization of single-cycle...
A theoretical analysis of the performance of CO-OFDM systems that use optical phase conjugation is presented, showing excellent agreement with simulations and experiments. We identify two two-stage mixing mechanisms that limit the signal quality.
This paper describes the effect of Differential Phase Shift Keying (DPSK) modulation on Four-Wave Mixing (FWM) in a multi-channel, long-haul optical fibre communication system that employs Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM). The performance of NRZ-DPSK and the commonly used NRZ-Intensity Modulation with Direct Detection (IMDD) are compared in the presence of FWM, while the factors that influence...
We propose a wavelength-division-multiplexing pump technique to perform serial-to-parallel conversion using a parametric processor. We demonstrate the concept by demultiplexing a 40-Gb/s signal into four 10-Gb/s signals using four sampling wavelengths and compare performance to electronic demultiplexing.
This paper investigates a simple and low cost method using optical predistortion feedback (OPDFB) linearization to suppress four wave mixing (FWM) and reduce the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise due to the semiconductor optical amplifier used in radio-over-fiber (RoF) systems.
This paper investigates the first demonstration of linearization of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) using feed forward linearization. For improving the linearity and suppressing the four wave mixing (FWM) of SOA the amplifier uses the feed forward technique. This technique should be applicable to any microwave or even millimetre frequency band and any externally modulated laser. Link performance...
