This paper presents some measurements and simulations results in which small helicoidally coils are designed, in the idea to provide a RF power transfer for implanted medical devices (IMDs). In such context, the coils should be very small if they are implanted within devices, or even if they are used as an alternate solution combined with UHF antennas (ex. PIFA). The influence of the body and the...
Newly developed coil antennas for High-Frequency (HF) Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) are fabricated and presented. The coils use comparable Q-factors and are optimized for an enhanced magnetic field (H-field) by using non-uniformly distributed turns of the radiative elements. Measurements are performed for the proof-of-concept and compared to simulations.
Taking the emission requirements from IEC 60601–1–2 as starting point, a detailed analysis of the shielding requirements of an examination room for a 3T Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanner has been made. A 3D Finite Element model of scanner and shielding room has been built and the influence of slits on the shielding performance has been investigated. Comparison between simulations of shielding effectiveness...
In remote sensors a RF wireless link can be used to transmit the collected data to a reader unit. In order to improve the sensor lifetime, an inductive link could be used to sporadically reload the sensor battery without physical access to it. However the presence of a coil integrated in the same chip together with the antenna will degrade the RF link performance. In this paper, simulated and measured...
The influence of radio-frequency fields on pacemaker operation is the object of numerous studies, both in technical and medical literature. The main point of interest is safety of MRI diagnostics and the influence of cellular phones on the device operation. In this article a wide band behavior of pacemaker lead is discussed, in order to categorize potentially dangerous frequency bands. Medical and...
We present three-dimensional (3D) finite-element simulation results on the radio frequency (RF) coupling in a 433-MHz near-field biotelemetry link for an artificial hip joint. We verified the accuracy of the model through comparison of simulations and measurements of a 433-MHz mock telemetry link in a 6-cm-thick porcine thigh. The model has cylindrical symmetry, and electrically short linear wire...
