In this paper, we report on the development of a prototype of 500W Ka-Band Helix TWTs. Based on the length and frequency of start oscillation calculated, a phase velocity taper is designed to suppress backward-wave oscillation and improve electronic efficiency of the TWT. The testing results show that this device is capable to deliver more than 500W (pulsed) power with a gain of 39dB over a bandwidth...
The unmodulated pulse magnetrons design and technology has advanced over the last seven years at New Japan Radio Co., Ltd. (New JRC). These developments have resulted in a dramatic reduction in the unwanted emission levels produced by magnetron devices. This was necessary to meet the increasing global demand for a more efficient use of the radio frequency spectrum, which is seen as a limited and scarce...
Experiments on an axial vircator are reported on. The design of the vircator allows adjustment of the cavity depth as well as of the way microwave radiation is extracted. The vircator is driven by a repetitive Marx generator operating in single shot mode. The microwave radiation is measured with a pair of free-field B-dot sensors. The maximum field strengths was registered when the bandwidth was very...
