During two-year research (1999-2000) on Diptera of the marine and coastal saline habitats of the Gulf of Gdańsk, 28 species of non-biting midges (Chironomidae) were collected. 22 species are listed for the first time from the study area. At present, the checklist of Chironomidae of the Gulf of Gdańsk includes 35 species.
Interactions between swarming Chironomidae and insectivorous Ceratopogonidae were observed in the field. Chironomid males of the genera Natarsia FlTTKAU, Polypedilum KlEFFER, Parachironomus LENZ, Cladotanytarsus KlEFFER, Paratanytarsus THIENEMANN et BAUSE and Tanytarsus WULP were attacked by females of Sphaeromias CURTIS, Probezzia KlEFFER, Palpomyia Meigen and Nilobezzia KlEFFER.
